We started the day off bright and early by harvesting all of the vegetables for tonight's CSA pickup. It may have been 7 in the morning, but the temperatures were already climbing. Walking through the rows it was good to take note of how everyone was being effected by this sudden heat wave. Most of the lettuce has given up and has bolted, trying desperately to secure the next generation. The tomatoes, however, are absolutely loving it. They're finally starting to develop from their thick green skinned stage in to the juicy, mouth watering sweet fruit that we all love. The rainbow chard was dancing in the morning breeze, flashing its brightly colored stems. The other summer vegetables are in full swing: cucumbers, squashes, eggplant and peppers. It made me feel very accomplished knowing that I would be sharing this bounty with members of my community later in the evening. I had a blast setting up the vegetables. There's something about the abundance of colors set out that just makes me excited to take these guys home to my kitchen. This week we had 6 shares for our members: Big Beef tomatoes, 2 varieties of eggplant, 4 varieties of summer squash (including the fancy heirloom Romanescas), 2 kinds of cucumbers, rainbow chard and Pac Choi. Jeannie also had samples of blackberries out for members to try from our U Pick. After everything was said and done, we put up what we had left of the harvest and took our own shares home. As I'm writing this I'm dreaming of all of the recipes I'm going to cook up with my vegetables. I can't wait to share my creations with all of you.
We still have openings for members in our CSA. If you want to bring home the harvest, contact me as soon as you can and I'll get you on our members list!

CSA Opening week was truly a bomb! A lot of fresh fruits and vegetables were sold on the market, and the customers couldn't be happier for that. Of course, I was also amazed by the fact that a lot of clients made an effort just to be there and buy all these fresh goods. I too would make an effort if I was given the chance! By the way, the upcoming weeks for CSA would be good too, let's claim it! If we will try to be positiver about things, we can achieve it!
