Discovery Gardens 2012 will begin on April 3rd. All prior members will have priority enrollment. There are some openings and new members will be chosen in the order received. So if you've never done the program please contact me to get on the list.
Discovery Gardens
What is it?
Discovery Gardens is a hands on agriculture program. You will learn to plant, tend, and harvest at our weekly garden classes. We provide everything you need for the class and do all the irrigation, pest management and fertilizing for nutrient density.
* No gardening experience necessary.

* The soil is prepared for you and ready to plant.
* Classes offered three days per week.
* Come to the classes and take home the harvest.
**Genesis Organic Farm cannot guarantee the harvest. Only God can do that. Last two seasons have averaged 400 lbs per 100 sq ft garden.
You can expect about 300 pounds from an 80 sq ft garden.

Discovery Gardens
How does it work?
Reserve your garden. Choose your plants from our Garden Guide catalog. Your garden will be ready to plant in the beginning of April. Come to the weekly classes and take home the harvest. This program is designed for families. There is no per person charge. Depending on the plants you choose your 80 square feet of garden will grow about **300 pounds of vegetables, so if you have a small family you may split your garden with a friend.

How Much does it cost?
* Enrollment fee is $100 payable at time of enrollment.
This is a one time fee and covers all plants, seed, materials etc.
* Season runs from April through September.
* Monthly rent is $50. Due by the tenth of each month,
April through August. -*Septembers rent is free.
* Pay by cash or check made out to Discovery Gardens.

Garden Class Schedule
For your Convenience each class will be offered 3 times per week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
You may come to whichever day fits your schedule.
Spring Schedule- 10:00 to 11:30 am.
Summer Schedule- 9:00 to 10:30 am.

Reduced Rent
If you want to participate in the program but cannot afford it, call me for more information on this option, as I can only offer it to a limited number of gardens.
What's Cooking?
Our Summer Harvest Cooking Shows will teach you delicious ways to incorporate your garden fresh vegetables into everyday meals. Children love to help prepare the food and are more likely to eat something they picked and helped cook. Every Saturday in July and August we will harvest and prepare something delicious to eat and then post the recipes here. Soups, Sauces, Simple side dishes, 'Sun Dried' Tomatoes, Pickles, Food Preservation and much more. The "What's Cooking" show starts at 9:00am every Saturday in July and August.
Genesis Organic Farm
Hi, I'm Jeannie Williams. My husband, Ted, and I started Genesis Farm in 2006. We started with 2 acres of pluots and a small u-pick orchard. Now Genesis Farm and Good Seed Organic Farm share a 10 acre parcel located in Hanford California. There's something for everyone here.
The Discovery Gardens program is for those who like to get their hands in the soil. Discovery Gardens classes are taught from a Creation perspective. Discovery Gardens are organically grown but not certified. The Discovery Gardens program began in 2007 and grew as the demand for affordable, high quality organic vegetables increased to the point where I was selling out before the season began. So in 2011 we launched Good Seed Organics with the Rees family at the helm, Marv and Kim will bring their expertise and good ol' fashioned tenacity to transform fallow land into a cornucopia of nutritious vegies.
Good Seed Organics is our subscription farm program where members pick up their weekly vegetable shares, but no matter which program you choose you will enjoy high quality, organic produce, grown with a focus on nutrient density and at a price that fits your budget. Genesis Farm U-pick tree fruit is available to members of Discover Gardens and Good Seed Organics at our low members only price of $1.00 per pound for tree fruit and grapes. Our perennial herb garden is open to all members free of charge. Our Dapple Fire pluots are certified organic. Other tree fruit and grapes are grown without chemical pesticides but not certified.

2011 as been a very busy year. We launched a healthy fundraising program called Gardens 4 Education. 2012 is shaping up to be just as busy. My Discovery Gardens program has become a franchise! The Facilities
The idea of a farm restroom conjures up the image of a rickety old outhouse with a moon shape on the door. I'm proud to say our restroom facilities are modern, fully plumbed and clean. Sanitation is very important. Antibacterial soap is provided. We also have a deep sink outside of the restroom to wash off heavy dirt. This is one of the most common questions prior to enrollment so I thought I'd post it to dispel any fears.

We have a 10 x 20 shaded picnic area located next to the bathroom. It's a place to sit back and relax after harvest.
Don't forget to say Hi to Nelly, the pet Pygmy goat and her BFF, Strawberry Shortcake. We also have a few chickens. Children love feeding the chickens the bad bugs you may find in your garden.

And the Winner is...
For most Pounds Harvested goes to the Loomis and Gaines garden with a total of 420 pounds!
The winning Giant Zucchini was grown in the O'dell and Rickman garden and weighed a whopping 4 pound 9 oz.
The biggest Tomato Hornworm was found by the Loomis and Gaines families and measured 4 inches long.
The Longest Bean was found by the Dean family and measured 24 inches.
The Biggest Tomato was grown in the O'Dell and Rickman Garden. It was a Hawaiian Pineapple and weighed 2 lb, 11.4oz.
The First Bean to the Top of the Trellis contest was won by the Taylor family garden.
The Scarecrow Contest was won by the Paden family.
And the coveted Tomato Launch trophy went to the Paden family with a 314 ft. launch!
